Africa Medical Centre of Excellence Abuja
Leed Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is is considered a beacon of hope for the future of healthcare in Africa. It is a 170-bed specialty hospital that offers world-class comprehensive diagnostic, medical and surgical services, and is complemented by research and education facilities.
The project, backed by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in clinical partnership with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, is the first of five such hospital, research, and education centres planned for development on the African continent.
The AMCE will be implemented in four phases over five years. With operations having commenced on the 170-bed specialist hospital that will later be expanded to a 500-bed facility, the project aims to serve more than 200,000 patients in Nigeria and another 150,000 patients from neighbouring West African countries within the first five year period.
As the appointed LEED Independent Commissioning Agent on this project, Ecolution Consulting was responsible for the Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning of this building. Ecolution ensured that all the building energy systems were commissioned as per the LEED Commissioning process. This ensures that the building systems are operating optimally and according to the owner’s requirements. We worked with the design team and building facilities team to ensure that the operation and maintenance processes of the building are also supported through the development of system manuals, verification of staff and occupant training, and a 10 month operations review (still to be completed).
